For example, it supplies aluminum auto parts and components that reduce the overall weight of automobiles, which results in less CO2 emissions. UACJ also promotes widespread recycling in society, particularly closed loop recycling of aluminum cans, meaning cans are made only from the same products. In June 2021, the company launched a new brand of environmentally friendly products called UACJ Smart. By supplying aluminum products that significantly reduce CO2 emissions while meeting the needs of customers, UACJ intends to help achieve Japan’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. By manufacturing aluminum products from aluminum scrap, electricity consumption can be reduced by 90% compared with the aluminum smelting process, through which virgin aluminum is produced from bauxite ore. For that reason, UACJ has been using scrap melting furnaces to produce recycled aluminum while developing technologies for recycling various types of scrap materials.
