Development of MONOBRAZE - A New Brazing Technology Requiring No Brazing Filler Material

UACJ Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Mitsuru Okada) has recently developed MONOBRAZE, a fillerless aluminum brazing technology.

This technology is an innovative bonding method that utilizes the characteristics of the core material, allowing for a significant increase in productivity and contributing to the pursuit of high-quality manufacturing of various types of heat exchangers.

Until now, the brazing of aluminum has required, for example, the use of a cladding material with brazing filler material on its surface, or a brazing preform. With the MONOBRAZE technology, some of the core material is melted and the fluid that results is used in place of a brazing filler material to complete the joint. The joint is made, therefore, with only the core material. Proper control of fluid from the melting of the core material enables bondability and resistance to deformation.

The brazing of fin material used in various types of heat exchangers requires only a small amount of brazing filler material. The MONOBRAZE technology, which also applies very little stress to the core material, can, therefore, be used for this process.

Characteristics of MONOBRAZE

  1. Saves the cost of cladding material and preforms.
  2. Eliminates preform placement and other manufacturing steps.
  3. Can be applied with equipment used to manufacture products traditionally made with the use of brazing filler material.
  4. In terms of mechanical properties, bondability and corrosion resistance, offers performance comparable to that of cladding materials.
