2009 Entrance Ceremony Welcome Speech by President & CEO (Summary)

April 1, 2009

First of all, I'd like to congratulate you all and welcome you to Furukawa-Sky. While there are many things I would like to talk about, I will focus on two important issues on this occasion.

The first issue concerns our corporate strategy for the current year.

This year's corporate slogan is, "Overcome every challenge in our economic environment during this year of dramatic transformation." In view of the prevailing circumstances, this reflects our hope to build a solid corporate constitution to overcome any changes in the environment.

Recognizing the economy will not easily recover and that severe conditions will continue, I believe we must decide how we will respond this year, that is, how we will transform ourselves. Since the expansionary image carried by terms such as "stronger profitability" and "business expansion," which we had actively pursued until last year, do not correspond with the current situation, our efforts must now revolve around the foundational keywords, "cost reduction," "stronger constitution and innovation," and "global competence." We nevertheless remain focused in the same direction. We will strengthen our corporate constitution by streamlining wherever we can and by vigorously pursuing overseas development commensurate with our status, to gain a competitive edge and develop a pillar of business expansion. And as we patiently continue to face deteriorating conditions on the ground, we nevertheless intend to steadily advance toward becoming a dynamic and revitalized Furukawa-Sky.

The second issue I want to discuss is actually a request for all of you.

Although we certainly expect you to quickly and actively become involved in our business expansion and the multitude of tasks that lie ahead of us, we also want you to take the time necessary to develop into highly competent members of the company. We will of course work with you to increase your abilities, but the real key is your own attitude. We cannot expect much from a passive attitude. Please cultivate broad interests and take personal responsibility for enhancing your abilities. While your potential may seem limited, it is in fact infinite. I hope you will work hard to develop yourselves toward lofty goals.

Once again, I congratulate you on your entry into this company and express my utmost expectations in the hope that your efforts will bear fruit as soon as possible. Let's work together to bring success to the company.
