UACJ was established in October 2013 through the merger of two of Japan's top aluminum manufacturers.
UACJ was established on October 1, 2013. The two companies that form its parent entities, Furukawa-Sky Aluminum Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Light Metal Industries, Ltd., have both led the aluminum rolling industry since their founding in Japan's Meiji era (1868–1912). Prior to integration, the two companies held the no. 1 and no. 2 positions in domestic share, and the combined UACJ share became top-class worldwide. Leveraging these scale merits, UACJ utilizes the technological and product capabilities cultivated over many years by both companies, along with production and sales networks on a global scale, to continue challenging the possibilities of aluminum, create new value, and contribute broadly to society.
