July 2, 2020
UACJ Corporation (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Miyuki Ishihara) has joined the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), a global aluminum industry body, becoming the first Japanese manufacturer of flat-rolled aluminum to do so.
ASI’s objectives involve international initiatives to enhance sustainability efforts across the aluminum supply chain and maximize contributions to society from an ESG perspective. Established in 2012, ASI’s founding members include companies and organizations from a variety of positions, such as aluminum producers, manufacturers of processed aluminum and end users. In fiscal 2018, the ASI Certification program began conducting third-party audits against the ASI Standards. Currently, ASI’s members include more than 120 companies and organizations around the world. The ASI’s main activities are to create consistent global standards pertaining to sustainability-related performance in the aluminum industry, as well as traceability throughout the manufacturing, processing and distribution processes, and to oversee related audits and approvals.
UACJ is a global manufacturer, with operations, centering on Japan, the United States and Thailand, handling the rolling, extrusion, casting and forging, and precision machining of aluminum and aluminum alloys. UACJ’s mission is to contribute to society by using materials to manufacture products that enhance prosperity and sustainability. To this end, by joining the ASI UACJ will positively provide operational feedback on the formulation of global standards in the aluminum industry. In addition, by supporting ASI’s activities through its standing as a member, UACJ will contribute toward a more sustainable society.
