News Room 2003 (The former Furukawa-Sky)
On the Launch of Furukawa-Sky Aluminum Corp.
October 2, 2003
On this day, October 1, 2003, Furukawa-Sky Aluminum Corp. was established through the merger of the light metals group of Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. and SKY Aluminum Co., Ltd. Masashi Kato was named as President and Satoshi Fujiguchi as Vice President. For the approved administrative structure click on this link (Exhibit 1).
At this time we wish to thank everyone for their support and cooperation in bringing about this new structure.
The new company will be a comprehensive aluminum manufacturer that includes three sheet manufacturing plants, five manufacturing bases in Japan for extrusions, castings and forgings, and 14 affiliates, including overseas companies. Our sales forecast for fiscal 2004 is 430,000 tons and 160 billion yen for the company alone, and about 200 billion yen including affiliates. While demand remains strong, we aim to establish a system and build a business record for the new company as quickly as possible. The head office will be in the Kinshicho of Tokyo and sales will continue as before through Unifus Aluminum Co., Ltd.
For the future we aim to improve our quality and technologies, develop new products and place priority on responding quickly to our customers' changing needs in various fields. Specifically, we aim to expand in selected fields and raise efficiency by unifying our research and development system. Also, we will build an optimal production system taking advantage of the features of each plant, establish global competitiveness, and try to help strengthen the infrastructure of the aluminum industry.
As part of these activities, we will introduce a 15,000-ton hot-forging press (see Exhibit 2), and move forging from the Nikko Site to the Oyama Site in order to consolidate and expand our forging business. In addition, on December 1, 2003 we will merge Aluminum Center 21, Furukawa Aluminum Coil Center, and Yamato Light Metal Co., Ltd. to form ACE21 Co., Ltd. (See Exhibit 3).
We look forward to your continued understanding and support in the future.
