News Room 2004 (The former Furukawa-Sky)
About the Acquisition of UniFus Aluminum as a Sales Division
December 22, 2004
On April 1, 2005 we acquired UniFus Aluminum Co., Ltd. as a sales subsidiary. The aim of this acquisition was to reinforce the management base and make business operations more efficient.
UniFus Aluminum was established in March 2000 as a sales company for aluminum products through the merger of the former Sky Aluminum and the aluminum business sales division of Furukawa Electric. In October 2003, Furukawa-Sky Aluminum Corporation was established through the merger of the two companies' aluminum businesses, with Furukawa-Sky becoming a wholly owned subsidiary.
Today, the president and vice president of UniFus Aluminum, along with many of the company's directors, serve also as directors of Furukawa-Sky. Consequently, the company's management is essentially inseparable from that of Furukawa-Sky. Formally, however, it is a separate company, which means that some inefficiencies arise in actual business operations.
Because of these issues, Furukawa-Sky absorbed UniFus Aluminum to unify production and sales management in both form and content aiming to improve the company's management base and streamline business operations.
