2006 Entrance Ceremony Welcome Speech by President Yoshihara (Summary)

April 3, 2006

Congratulations on your employment. On behalf of all our employees, I would like to express my heartfelt welcome to you.

As today is your first day as a fully contributing member of society, I'm sure you must be quite nervous. I can assure you, however, that I have been quite nervous myself lately, since I have just recently been appointed the president of this company. Let's try to maintain this fresh sense of new beginnings we are experiencing right now.

We are a new company that just had its stock listed on the stock exchange in December. I believe that the core, or starting point, of all our actions lies in providing satisfaction to our stakeholders, and I am not saying this just because we have recently listed our stock. For this reason, the top priority issue is our initiative for improving profitability. Any significant achievement will require the company to seek consistent, long-term improvements in profitability while securing stable and adequate profit. So please always be sure to develop plans, as individuals and as an organization, from the perspective of what should be done to further improve profitability. Return to this starting point whenever you feel unsure about a specific decision, and then make your decision from this perspective.

In terms of your actual work, many things must be done. For example, one critical issue is the implementation of the new Mid-Term Management Plan. Although we have just started taking actions such as capital investment, concentrating production, and overseas development, the pathway for the improvements we are pursuing for the next two or three years has already been paved. We will steadily implement our plan to become a genuine leader and direct our efforts to expand our business.

There is one more important thing I would like to mention now. Our company has been able to establish an advantageous business position in the industry thanks to the hardships overcome by our predecessors. Now those predecessors are just as excited as we are by the current situation. I think we must repay their hardships by taking an even greater leap forward. Please remember you are here now thanks to their efforts.

Finally, I have one expectation or request to ask of you. Although we certainly expect you to be ready to go to work immediately, we would also like you to develop into competent members of the company, even it takes some time. We will of course work as a company to increase your abilities, but when all is said and done, the attitude of each and every one of you is very important. We cannot expect much from a passive attitude. Please cultivate broad interests and strive to enhance your abilities on your own.

Once again I congratulate you on your entry into this company and express my utmost expectations in the hope that your personal efforts will bear fruit as soon as possible. Let's work together to bring success to our company.
