Increased Production Capacity Planned for Extruded Aluminum Material Subsidiary in Tianjin, China
May 20, 2008
Furukawa-Sky will increase the production capacity of its subsidiary company incorporated in China (Furukawa-Sky Aluminum (Tianjin) Corp., Headquarters: Tianjin, Managing Director: Kazumi Kato), to meet expectations of continued strong demand in China for extruded aluminum material used in automobile heat exchangers.
Sales of automobiles in China in 2007 increased 22% over the previous year to 8.88 million vehicles and are expected to reach over 10 million in 2008, with high rates of growth projected to continue. Recognizing the need to quickly expand facilities, we decided to add one 2,750-ton extruding machine and ancillary facilities with operation scheduled to commence in March 2009. Total investment is expected to be about US$6 million.
The existing facility houses one 2,750-ton extruding machine with a projected production capacity of approximately 180 tons per month by the end of the FY 2008 against a target of about 450 tons per month for 2010.
The local corporation was established in April 2005 and started operations in April 2007 as one of the bases for the global expansion of our aluminum extruded products businesses.
