Development of Fus Plate Thick Aluminum Plates for Industrial Machinery

Furukawa-Sky Aluminum Corp. has announced the development of Fus Plate thick aluminum plates for industrial machinery. Fus Plate balances high precision and low price. This new product joins the existing A5052 general-use thick plate and FP52 high-precision thick plate to expand our lineup into three types of thick aluminum plates.

Furukawa-Sky's two previously released thick aluminum plate products, the A5052 general-use thick plate and the FP52 (FURUKAWA-SKY PRECISION PLATE 5052) high-end, high-precision thick plate, significantly enhanced thick plate precision and flatness while minimizing residual stress. Major applications include semiconductor and LCD manufacturing equipment, solar panel manufacturing equipment, medical and optical equipment and various types of molds.

Amid diversifying market needs, however, expectations have grown for products that are of a higher quality than the A5052 and of a lower price than the FP52. To meet these needs, Furukawa-Sky leveraged its manufacturing technology in developing the Fus Plate to minimize costs.

We were able to keep increased manufacturing costs to a minimum compared with the A5052 and still achieved an approximately 50% improvement in flatness (less than 30 mm in thick plate precision) and in residual stress, which affects warping from breakage and cutting work. In addition, the guaranteed level of thickness tolerance is one-half to one-third better than that stipulated under Japan Industrial Standards.

Our expanded lineup enables customers to select the exact thick plate product that precisely meets their needs, ensures dimensional accuracy in the machining process and omits warp-correction processes, leading to cost reductions in material procurement and processing.
